Hello, Dear Readers!
First things first, my apologies for having left you in the lurch these last couple weeks! I’ve been singing away at the Vancouver International Song Institute, and most of my cooking has been more out of convenience than creativity. I’m settling into a regular routine of morning oatmeal and a big salad for dinner, with lunches bought on the go.
While I usually like to cook for myself, I would not presume to best Vancouver at its sushi game. This city is a sushi mecca, and seeing as it’s one of my favorite foods, I’ve been taking full advantage! The fish here is impeccably fresh, and the sushi is far less expensive than in San Francisco. Here are a couple shots of one of my first meals in Vancouver:
In addition to eating and singing, I’ve been loving the beautiful natural surroundings. The woods and beaches here have a misty, rocky beauty that’s much different from the sunny California shores I’m used to.
Finally, here’s a shot of the interior of the Chan Center, the beautiful venue where got to see Sir Thomas Allen’s Vancouver debut last night! He sang a varied and lovely program, including some charming Northumbrian folk songs.
I hope all’s well in the blogosphere, and that all of you are enjoying June so far!
Best,
Opera Girl

Looks like so much fun!! What did you sing?
Also I’m super jealous of the sushi mecca…there are some awesome sushi restaurants in MN but it’s just not the same when it isn’t as fresh :/
I sang lots of stuff, Kristina! We each brought 8 pieces of repertoire to work on for the duration of the program. I had Barber’s Nuvoletta and Ive’s Serenity, Debussy’s Chevaux des bois, Clair de lune, and Green, and Strauss’ Nichts and Ständchen. So many good pieces.
Ahhh I love Standchen… one of my favorite pieces to sing, it’s so much fun!
